Jasmesh was halfway through his course when something terrible happened.

His mother sadly passed away. 

Now, grief is many things. It’s sadness. It’s shock. 

Anger. Fatigue. A total inability to concentrate. 

And it would be completely understandable for someone suffering from grief to pump the brakes on their course.

At Duke, one of our big values is ‘Learning with a Hug’ – something Jasmesh says he really felt during this time.

“When Mum passed away, you guys (the Duke team) were so wonderful and understanding.”

“When I wasn’t able to meet my deadlines, Duke asked me if there was anything they could do to help me.” 

“They even emailed me to say I could take my time and allowed me to complete my course when I was ready. I really appreciated that.” 

Jasmesh’s Backstory

Currently working as a camera operator in NSW, Jasmesh has recently completed his TLI30325 Cert III in Supply Chain Operations.

“I was looking for something more stable, and I always wanted to learn something different.”

“I saw lots of companies hiring for work in a warehouse environment, so I thought Supply Chains would be good.”

Jasmesh was sold on Duke when his employment service mentioned the flexibility and stress-free environment.

“Duke’s setup fitted my schedule. And I was told it was stress-free!” 

The Future for Jasmesh is Bright

Before he goes all-in on a career change, Jasmesh has his sights set on even more learning. 

“I wanna get my gambling ticket, and then I wanna get my forklift ticket. It’s just about having more options for me.”

We’d say that’s a smart move, Jasmesh. The more open doors, the better.

When asked about the main takeaways of his experience at Duke, he said this:

“It really taught me how important it is to stay disciplined. The course helped me with that, as well as with time management.”

Actually Jasmesh, we’ll disagree there. It was you who showed discipline, time management and incredible resilience during your time at Duke.

Those qualities? Hard to teach.
